FIRE IN THE SKY: The Travis Walton Interview

It’s probably the best documented, most widely reported UFO abduction case in recent times.

It’s the Walton Experience.

On November 5, 1975, a group of loggers in the mountains of northeastern Arizona observed a strange, unusually bright light in the sky. One of these men, Travis Walton, left the safety of their truck to take a closer look. Suddenly, as he walked toward the light, Travis Walton was blasted back by a bolt of mysterious energy.

His companions hightailed it out of there. When they reported what happened to Travis to the authorities, they were suspected of murder. For 5 days, law enforcement officials conducted an extensive search for Travis Walton. Then, miraculously, Travis reappeared, disoriented, and initially unable to tell the whole story of what happened to him.

In 1993, Paramount Pictures made a movie based on Travis Walton’s experience called Fire in The Sky.

Travis Walton has written an exhaustive account of his alien abduction titled Fire In The Sky, The Walton Experience (Marlowe and Co.)

We spoke with Travis Walton about that day in November of 1975, and his life today.

Q: Travis, how has your life changed since the release of Paramount’s movie on your life?
A: Well, when I was finally considering doing the movie…you know, for years I turned down offers. Finally, they said, “Well, look, come on, you’re gonna change people views. You’re gonna get a better response from people if you do. So, that was the hope.

Q: Did the newspapers of the day ridicule your story?
A: Well, the longer time went on, the more people came to find out that much of the evidence that skeptics came forward with at the time of the incident simply wasn’t true. It just didn’t stand the test of time. As time went on they found more of the supporting evidence that never really got out.
