Q – Sarah, how is it you grew up in California, but ended up starting a business in Brooklyn? Was it your parents or college that brought you to New York?
A – I came out here to go to college at Sarah Lawrence, and then I just fell in love with the place. I can’t imagine living anywhere else.

Q – You’re an organic baker. Why did you choose to go that route?
A – Back home, it was what we were getting into at the time and was popular so, that’s why I decided to go that route.

Q – Harper Collins published your book in June 2009. That was a cake recipe book?
A – It was an organic and chic cake book that was published in the Spring of last year (2009).

Q – So, who orders your organic cakes? Is it regular folks or do you have a celebrity following?
A – I would say it’s about a 50% mix.

Q – Can you name any celebrities that purchase your cakes?
A – I couldn’t. They would probably like that to be kept private.

Q – Do you have a retail store or do you use a studio and a commercial kitchen?
A – I have a studio and a commercial kitchen I use. It’s Special Order, Custom cakes.

Q – Do you use assistants?
A – In the busy Wedding Season I do have some assistants, but usually I work by myself.

Q – How do you get the word out about your business?
A – I get the word out through the traditional press and the book press, and now the Internet. I use magazines like Brides and New York Magazine.
